COVA and the Learning Process

COVA framework is one of the most intentional framework methods I have come across thus far. As a student, COVA has forced me to take ownership of my learning like never before. I know a lot of people throw the term "ownership" around but what does it actually means in regards to our learning. Ownership or taking responsibility for an idea or problem (Cambridge University, n.d.) in the ADL program meant I actually had the opportunity to figure out what I wanted to learn about and how I wanted to learn it. No one told me what to do. I was given a few parameters to follow and the rest was up to me. When assignments were do I had to figure them out. There was no right or wrong way. If I was able to justify my "why" and support it with relevant evidence, the task was complete.

The ownership of learning I thought I possessed prior to being enrolled in this program was a figment of my imagination. There was no one to hold my to help me figure it out. I had resources, instructions and my collaborative members. That was it. Although, the beginning of the learning process came with its challenges. The pride I have in creating a self-implemented innovation plan brings me pride

The pride I have gained in learning using the COVA framework, has encouraged me to teach my students using the same methods. Giving students age appropriate choice, can help to encourage them by simply not giving them a task but an option instead. Allowing them to display their mastery of content.
