Welcome to Tech-ing TEKS: Blended Learning Initiative!

Hi! I'm Jelisa Davis-Sophus, M.Ed. I am a wife, mother, millennial educator, and life-long learner. I have was born and raised in Central Texas, where I had the opportunity to be introduced to diversity and culture very young. I received my undergraduate degree in education from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. After graduation, I became an Enrollment Specialist for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Texas. While being employed as an Enrollment Specialist, Travis County Juvenile Probation contacted me about an opportunity as a Juvenile Supervision Officer in a Juvenile Detention Facility! Wide eyed- and bushy-tailed, I gladly accepted this new and exciting task. Soon after being employed, I realized I kept seeing the same young men and women returning to the detention facility. Disheartened by this sad reality, I decided to utilize my degree in education and begin my journey as an educator in a formal classroom setting.

In 2018, I began my career as an educator in Manor ISD, a small rural district near Austin, Texas. During this time, I realized my passion for education and knew I had discovered my calling.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, my now husband and I decided to relocate to the Houston area to be closer to his parents. I continued my career as an educator at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in Houston, Texas and obtained my Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas in 2022.

As I continue to grow and evolve as an educator, I am learning new ways to help facilitate the learning of students and help them take ownership of their learning and become self-motivated scholars. Come along for the journey as I help to incorporate meaningful technology with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills set for students to master!
